Forget typical Chick Flicks, like Thelma and Louise or Waiting to Exhale while going through a breakup. Those movies are classics, but how about broadening your viewing library by watching something a little different for once to lighten your mood after a frustrating breakup, or day at the office.

Flick One: What The Bleep Do We Know? (2004) (Available on Netflix Instant)
An “Oldie” from 2004, this is one of my favorite films. A documentary with some acting, starring Academy Award Winner, Marlee Matlin. The message of the movie? You can change your life by changing the way you think and react to things. Sometimes we cannot control what happens to us, but we CAN control how we choose to respond.
Flick Two: The Pursuit of Happyness (2006) (Available on Netflix DVD)
Based on the book by Chris Gardner by the same name. This tearjerking film co-stars Will Smith and his son Jaden, playing the roles of Gardner and his son. Gardner is homeless, shunned by his ex, and dealing with a dead end salesman job. He manages to get an internship with a brokerage firm-that eventually leads to secure employment. The message of the movie? If you work hard enough and want to succeed badly enough, nothing can stand inyour way.
Flick Three: When Harry Met Sally (1989) (Available on Netflix DVD)
This hysterical classic starring Billy Crystal and Meg Ryan (and Carrie Fisher with an unforgettable co-star role) proves that with good communication, timing and friendship can make for a successful relationship…and shows that the best person for us could be right in front of us. Message of the movie? Some of the best romantic relationships develop in time, and through long lasting friendships.
Flick Four: As Good As It Gets (1997) (Available on Netflix DVD)
This romcom starring Jack Nicholson, plays a quirky guy with some major OCD. He learns to open his heart and mind when he suddenly is forced into caring for his hospitalized neighbor’s dog. It furthers his life in ways that he didn’t see possible. Message of the movie? Sometimes when we look outside of ourselves, and care for others, is an opportunity to find love within oneself.
